"I discovered Lakes Area Singles when I did a search on the internet. I was tired of sitting home on Friday and Saturday nights, since most of the friends I had were married. The calendar with many fun activities caught my attention. I love to be active and do a wide variety of things. The calendar has something for everyone. I especially like campfires, hay rides, house parties with potluck meals, pontoon cruises, discussion groups, intertubing down a river, dance lessons, pizza party at the Arb and dining out with friends. You can participate in as many or few of the activities as you want. The membership fee is very inexpensive.
I was nervous the first time I went, but the warm, welcoming friendship I felt made me want to come again. I was told I could come to three different events before making a decision to join the group. I appreciated that because it was very non-threatening. I like that Lakes Area Singles is a social group...a place where you can make friends and have fun (no more sitting home alone unless I choose to). I now have many friends (both male and female) to do fun things with. We have some very talented singers/musicians in the group. I look forward to receiving the calendar each month to add some fun to my life and I've even hosted a couple events."

FRIENDSHIP

“ L.A.S. is a friendship group.” This is part of the official description of Lakes Area Singles. While I can’t think of any better way to describe it, the word “friendship” can mean different things to different people. The question remains: “Just what exactly is a friendship group? “
I had a recent experience that may give members and especially prospective members some insight about L.A.S. friendship.
My mother passed away this past September; we had a Sunday night visitation and a Monday morning church funeral . At least fifty Lakes Area Singles members expressed their condolences and support in one or more of the following ways: attending one or both of the events mentioned above, sending cards and/or memorials, making a special phone call or sending an email, and making sure they had a personal one-on-one conversation with me at a subsequent L.A.S. event.
I was indeed overwhelmed by this display of support, but eventually realized that it wasn’t all that surprising. My family members were “ BLOWN AWAY “. They could not believe the support that came from a “singles group” (Many of them had some kind of pre–conceived totally misconstrued notion of what our group is really all about, much like a large percentage of the general population.)
Other L.A.S.members have had similar responses when they have lost loved ones; mine was certainly not an isolated case. It seems that this type of support is the “norm” when something stressful happens to a member (certainly not limited to a death in the family) of this great group to which we belong.
Showing support to a fellow member during a tough time in no way totally defines what a “friendship” singles group is all about, but it exemplifies in one small way the type of friendship that our group stands for.
During this holiday season when most people take a little more time to thank the Good Lord for their blessings, make sure that you remember to include your L.A.S. friends on that list. I am very thankful for the friends and friendship that Lakes Area Singles has given me.
